Waterproofing
Exterior Waterproofing of walls, is a very important part of preventing mould and associated problems from forming within the substrate of properties.
Over the course of time most building materials deteriorate with age and can become porous, which can become a major problem leading to many other secondary problems:-
The use of an exterior waterproofer will stop water penetration into the substrate, which in turn dries the wall which in turn reduces heat loss, working on the theory that a warm dry interior wall is easier to heat than a cold damp wall the energy costs required to heat the property are greatly reduced.
As an added bonus the treatment helps to reduce the growth of Lichen, Algae and moss on the treated areas, as well as reducing frost attack on treated areas such as brickwork and cementacious joints.
It Has 2 Be Done Ltd have found that a fairly high proportion of moisture ingress penetrates through hairline cracks at the brick/mortar interface, the treatments that we use all have the ability to penetrate these cracks, displace the water, thus providing complete waterproofing with no weak points.
one of the main causes other than weather for brickwork to break down and become non waterproof, is the growth of ivy and general climbers that use the wall as a means to grow upwards, this by the very nature of the climbers suckers which enables it to hang on to the wall, breaks away the glazed surface of the brick etc allowing moisture to penetrate, and then the frosts etc do the rest of the damage.
All of the treatments we use are microporous and will allow the structure to breathe. Therefore, any residual moisture trapped within the structure will come out in the form of water vapour.
Depending on the waterproofer used you can expect the following.
Benefits
After treating the lichen and moss we can expect the following to occur with the waterproofing
Gives brick, stone, concrete, masonry and other porous surfaces water repellence but allows the masonry to breathe.
Penetrates substrate and cures as breathable silicone resin barrier.
Reduces efflorescence and associated problems.
Does not alter appearance of treated surfaces.
Provides good adhesion for overpainted finishes.
Alkali resistant.
Will withstand torrential rain, gale force winds and protect against corrosive atmospheric attack.
Reduces heat loss, keeps cavity dry and saves on fuel costs.
Prevents damaging growths of moss, lichen and algae.
Protection against carbonation attack.
Reduces damage caused by acid rain.
Will penetrate and coat hair line cracks.
Effective everywhere where there is a substrate that can allow water penetration on a low level pressure
Treated surfaces stay cleaner longer.
